Taye Diggs is the latest actor to take on the titular role in the revival of Hedwig and the Angry Inch, and People revealed the first photo of Diggs glammed up and glittered out as Hedwig.
“Hedwig is the role of a lifetime. I’m looking forward to being challenged performance-wise on many levels, as well as being humbled by the musical’s social implications,” Diggs says in the new issue of PEOPLE, adding: “I also like wearing nail polish.”
The 44-year-old actor will begin his 12-week stint on the Great White Way on July 22 at the Belasco Theatre. He will replace Glee‘s Darren Criss.
“Taye is fantastic — he has theater cred, he has pop culture cred, he can sing, he can act, he can dance, he’s smart and he’s sexy,” the show’s lead producer, David Binder, told the New York Times in May. “That’s why we cast him.”
Diggs previously appeared in Broadway productions of Wicked, Rent and Chicago. That resume helped land him the role.
