Six officers have been charged in the death of Freddie Gray, Baltimore’s State Attorney Marilyn Mosby announced on Friday.
Mosby told reporters that after careful investigation by her office, along with a medical examiner’s determination that Freddie Gray’s death was a homicide, she has determined that there is probable cause to file criminal charges.
The city of Baltimore has been in unrest since Freddie Gray, 25, was laid to rest on Monday. The African-American man sustained a fatal spinal injury while in police custody and died at a hospital one week later on April 19.
“We ask for the public to remain patient and peaceful and to trust the process of the justice system,” Mosby said Thursday.
Mosby is the youngest chief prosecutor for a major city at age 35. She has been on the job for four months.
