Angela Bassett joins Jim Sturgess, Freddie Highmore and Charlotte Riley in Stephen Poliakoff’s upcoming miniseries Close to the Enemy, announced BBC.
Written and directed by Poliakoff, Close To The Enemy will take place in the transitional period of 1946, where the destruction of families and cities from the brutal second World War permeates through everyone’s lives.
This will mark Poliakoff’s first BBC drama since his acclaimed Dancing on the Edge, which starred Chiwetel Ejiofor and a black jazz band in 1930s London.
“With Stephen’s usual flair and attention to detail, Close to the Enemy is a hugely compelling drama which shines a light on a fascinating piece of British history,” said Kim Shillinglaw, controller of BBC2 , in a statement. “An amazing cast, wonderful design and original music will create an unmissable new period drama for BBC Two.”
Filming in Liverpool and London, Close to the Enemy will air in 2016.
