BET Networks revealed this year’s honorees to recieve accolades at the annual “Black Girls Rock!” event on April 5, which gives recognition to women of color in the fields of entertainment, philanthropy, sports and community service.
Co-hosted by Tracee Ellis Ross and Regina King, R&B songbirds Ciara, Fantasia and Jill Scott are among the musicians tapped to perform at the annual event held in Newark, New Jersey.
Last year’s honorees included Queen Latifah, Venus Williams and Pattie LaBelle, while singers Kelly Rowland, Janelle Monae and Jennifer Hudson took the stage for live performances.
“Black Girls Rock!” was founded by celebrity DJ and philanthropist Beverly Bond, who wanted to create a worldwide movement in an effort to empower women and young girls.
The event will take place in the New Jersey Performing Arts Center on March 28, but will not air on television until April 5 at 9pm on BET.
