Pharrell Williams will be honored with the coveted Fashion Icon Award by the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA). He will receive the honor on June 1 at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall, during the 2015 CFDA Fashion Awards.
According to the CFDA, who made the announcement on Wednesday (March 18), the Fashion Icon Award annually goes to “an individual whose style has made a significant impact on popular culture on an international stage.”
The singer, songwriter and record producer has had his fair share of memorable fashion moments, including his unforgettable hat at the 2014 Grammys.
In addition to his show-stopping fashion statements, Pharrell is co-founder of the clothing brands Billionaire Boys Club and Ice Cream Footwear. He also has a New York City boutique and has co-designed jewelry and eyeglasses for Louis Vuitton.
“If cool was a person, it would be Pharrell, not just for his looks and sense of style, but for his kindness and openness. I cannot imagine anyone not seduced by him,” said CFDA President Diane von Furstenberg in Wednesday’s announcement of the award.
Last year’s recipient of the award was Rihanna, who wore a sheer Adam Selman dress to accept her award. Previous recipients also include Johnny Depp, Lady Gaga, Iman, Kate Moss and Nicole Kidman.
