In honor of 4/20 and the 20th anniversary of the film Friday, a special director’s cut of the cult classic will be shown in 400 theaters nationwide for one night only on April 20th.
The stoner film, starring Ice Cube as a young man who loses his job to spend a memorable day with his pot smoking/dealer friend Smokey (Chris Tucker), was followed by two more sequels — 2000’s Next Friday and 2002’s Friday After Next.
Nonetheless, the original remains as the true fan-favorite.
“For the theaters, for New Line [Cinema], for the fans to want to pay homage to the movie in this way is cool,” Ice Cube reported to BuzzFeed. “It lets you know how much people appreciate it and how much fun it is … and it lets you know that Friday is now a part of the American fabric.”
The one-night-only event will also show a 24-minute feature, titled Friday Straight Up, which will include behind-the-scenes footage and interviews with the cast.
The film’s double-platinum soundtrack, which topped the U.S. charts for two weeks in 1995, will have a vinyl reissued on April 14 with a mixture of vintage R&B and ’90s hip-hop.
Tickets and showtimes can be found at Fathom Events.
