Kevin Hart premiered his latest comedy with co-star Will Ferrell at SXSW last night, where music, film, and interactive conferences are held in Austin, TX.
Attending fans were encouraged to share their reviews via Twitter. Ferrell, on the other hand, said he wasn’t very involved with social media and would rather receive his feedback through handwritten letters on nice stationary…
Well, they may be getting a lot of mail because Get Hard seemed to be packed with controversial, racial and homophobic jokes that had the audience both laughing and cringing at the same time.
“When you do satire, that’s a big problem,” Director Etan Cohen said during a post-screening Q & A session. “That’s a dangerous thing. It’s a very small window and that’s what we’re trying to find.”
“The truth is, that was a delicate balance to find,” he added when a member of the audience called the film racist. “When we were testing the movie, Ferguson was going on. It was hard to modulate… how far to push it.”
The comedy, which also features T.I., follows millionaire James King (Ferrell) as he prepares for prison with the help of his car-wash guy, Darnell Lewis (Hart).
Get Hard opens in theaters on March 27!
