Mariah Carey has signed with Epic Records, reuniting her with L.A. Reid, a Sony spokesperson confirmed with Billboard magazine.
The singer, who is currently preparing for her “#1’s” Las Vegas residency, has inked a multi-album contract that will begin with a greatest hits set. The forthcoming album is expected to feature updates and possibly duets of her chart-topping songs from 1990’s “Vision of Love” to 2008’s “Touch My Body.”
Carey’s new deal comes after a disappointing release of Me. I Am Mariah… The Elusive Chanteuse in 2014. It debuted at number three on the charts after selling about 60,000 copies, the lowest debut of her career. She also split with her long-time manager, Jermaine Dupri, after the album flop.
Working with L.A. Reid seems to be a wise career move for the singer because it is Reid who oversaw her 2005 comeback The Emancipation of Mimi. Also, Joey Arbagey, a collaborator of Carey’s during the making of the six-times platinum Mimi, is now Executive VP A&R at Epic.
Carey’s residency begins at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas on May 6. No word yet on a potential release date for her album.
