Shonda Rhimes brought Olivia Pope back in a big way on last night’s episode of Scandal, where she tackled the Ferguson police controversy head-on.
Titled “The Lawn Chair,” the storyline closely mirrored the murder of unarmed teenager Michael Brown, who was shot and killed by police officer Darren Wilson in August 2014.
Written by Zahir McGhee, the episode followed the murder of an unarmed 17-year-old black boy named Brandon Parker, who was shot and killed by a white police officer by the name of Jeffrey Newton in a southeast Washington neighborhood.
Rhimes and the Scandal cast opened up on Twitter about tackling the difficult topics.
