Dr. Dre is reportedly facing a lawsuit by R&B singer Leroy “Prince Phillip” Mitchell for featuring a song titled “If It Ain’t Ruff” in the upcoming N.W.A. film and soundtrack without granted consent.
Mitchell alleges that despite reaching out to Universal to notify them of the infringement, Dre and fellow N.W.A. member MC Ren chose to include a sample from his ’70s song, “Star in the Ghetto.”
The R&B funk singer-songwriter is seeking $6 million from the billionaire mogul in damages on claims he was “screwed out of royalties, fees, sales and has had his reputation damaged as a result of Dre’s actions.”
“If It Ain’t Ruff” sold 3.5 million copies and resulted in 2 million albums sold.
