Oscars 2015: Terrence Howard Gives Awkwardly Emotional Speech

The 87th annual Academy Awards ceremony was filled with funny moments, emotional moments and some confusing moments. Unfortunately, Terrence Howard’s introduction for Best Picture falls into the latter category.

Howard got oddly emotional while introducing the Best Picture nominees. Not only did he ramble and pause several times in an attempt to gather his thoughts, he also knocked into the mic.

“How far would you go to find the greatness in themselves? Whiplash — this film about a young musician desperately trying to please his ruthless teacher is a thrilling symphony that is both — it’s mind-blowing,” he said, sighing.

The “Empire” actor continued on with more odd behavior.

“Our next film.. our next film is amazing. I’m blown away right now myself,” he said, with a long pause. “Our next nominee for Best Picture reveals how the visionary father of modern computing Alan Turing helps defeat the Nazis only to have his own greatness stripped away from him for his sexual orientation.”

Twitter was just as confused, as Howard’s introduction seemed to be. Many believed the teleprompter stopped working, and his dramatic pauses were attempts to stall until it began to work again. Others commented that he was just being overdramatic, or worse.. he was high.
