Selma is headed to the White House.
Selma was snubbed in a couple of categories in the Oscar nominations— it earned a “Best Motion Picture” nomination, but director Ava DuVernay was notably left out of the “Best Director” category, and its actors didn’t earn any nods—but its get its recognition by the Obamas.
The White House will be hosting a Friday screening of the historic civil rights film. According to the Washington Post, the intimate late-afternoon gathering will include members of the cast and crew, including Common whose song “Glory” with John Legend received an Oscar nomination for “Best Original Song.” A source also says that Washington notables such as Rep. Terry Sewell (D-Ala.) will be in attendance. There is no word if Oprah, who produced the film, will be in attendance.
This isn’t the first time President Obama has held a film screening at the White House. Previous screenings have included Monuments Men, Cesar Chavez and Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom.
