Beyoncé and Jay Z spent most of their holidays vacationing in Thailand, but that didn’t stop them from spreading a little holiday cheer. The couple gave thousands of American troops stationed in Afghanistan and Kuwait a New Year’s Eve to remember.
The U.S. Troops were treated to a screening of the couple’s HBO special On the Run with an exclusive pre-recorded message from Queen Bey.
“Hello everyone. I just want to say a big thank you to our troops for everything you do to keep our country safe,” Bey was shown telling the service men and women during the USO countdown to 2015. “We all sleep better at night knowing that you guys are protecting us, and we’re filled with gratitude. So we wanted to do something special for you guys and we teamed up with our friends, the USO, to do a private screening, just for you guys, of the On the Run tour.”
While the troops weren’t able to be home to bring in the new year, the troops appreciated the entertainment and the thoughtful gesture.
“Watching the On the Run concert made me forget I was in Afghanistan for the holidays … thank you,” SSGT Ferguson said in a USO press release.
