Sony’s Amy Pascal Is the Center of Another Racial Comment
Fresh off of the racial comments about President Obama, Sony co-chair Amy Pascal is under fire again for making more racial comments in a leaked email where she referred to television as “the new black baby” in an apparent slam against celebs like Angelina Jolie, Sandra Bullock and Charlize Theron, who have adopted black children.
The comments were made in newly leaked emails from the Sony email hack obtained by Radar Online. The emails show the response Pascal made to Sony Television President Steve Mosko, who expressed his hurt that he was not made aware of a new TV deal that Sony was set to announce in July until he was asked to review the press release.
“Once again, this will cause major confusion in the television group because he has never talked to me or anyone else in our group and I will have to be on the defensive with my own team and not sure what to say to outside world …” Mosko wrote.
Pascal replied that the deal was primarily about feature films “but like everyone with half a brain these days television is the thing they want to do.”
In an attempt to appease Mosko, she told him he just was “not used to TV being the new black baby” — an apparent reference to the trend of Hollywood celebs adopting black children in recent years.
A source close to the studio is now insisting that the response was not intended to be racist and making it seem that way is “ridiculous.”
“This is ridiculous,” the source said. “She was making an ‘Orange is The New Black’ reference and like anybody else could have, left out the comma in the middle of writing a quick email filled with shorthand and abbreviations.”
Just last week, Pascal apologized for another set of emails between her and producer Scott Rudin that showed the two joking about what they think President Obama’s favorite films could be.
“Should I ask him if he liked DJANGO?” Pascal asked.
Rudin responded with another slavery-themed film — “12 Years A Slave.”
Pascal apologized for the comments, calling them “insensitive and inappropriate.”
