Jay Z’s Roc Nation Sports announced its entrance into boxing promotion in August, but Tuesday (Dec. 9) marked the news of an agreement of a three-event deal with Fox Sports with the first card set for Jan. 9 at the Madison Square Garden in New York.
“Madison Square Garden is looking forward to teaming up with Roc Nation for the first-ever boxing event,” said Joel Fisher, executive vice president of MSG Sports. “[It] provides a great setting for fans to watch boxing and entertainment all under one roof.”
The debut boxing event titled “throne boxing” will be an unorthodox hybrid of boxing and live music with tickets priced at $205, $105, $55 and $30 available for purchase via the Madison Square Garden box office at www.thegarden.com. Although a performer has yet to be announced, there will be two other talent slots for an emcee and a live DJ — all three of whom will be from the Roc Nation roster.
The dates and venues for the other two shows have yet to be determined, although chief operating officer of Roc Nation Sports’ David Itskowitch hopes to schedule them in the first half of 2015 with nods in Las Vegas and Los Angeles.
The first card will be headlined by welterweight prospect Dusty Hernandez-Harrison of Washington, D.C. (24-0, 13 KOs) squaring off with Long Island’s Tommy Rainone (22-5-1, 4 KOs) in a 10-round bout.
In addition to the fights, each ticket sold will donate $1 to the Muhammad Ali Center.
Catch the broadcast live on Jan. 9 at 10:00 p.m. ET/ 7:00 p.m. PST on Fox Sports 1!
