Fox Unveils Trailer for New Hip Hop Drama ‘Empire’

The trailer for Lee Daniels’ upcoming hip hop drama Empire has finally been released.

Fox’s new drama series is set in the world of a hip-hop empire, starring Taraji P. Henson as Cookie Lyon. The ex-wife of Terrence Howard’s character, Lucious Lyon, is the head of a record label that the drama centers around.

In the opening of the minute-long trailer, Lucious explains his life story before he reveals he has a fatal illness. The mogul is preparing to pass his legacy on to his children, but Cookie has a major issue with that. She has just been released from prison and is demanding her half of the empire.

The drama will also star Gabourey Sidibe, Jussie Smollett, Trai Byers and Naomi Campbell.

The project will be penned by Danny Strong, the writer behind The Butler and directed by Daniels. The original soundtrack is written and produced by Timberland.

Empire premieres in January on Fox.
