Dozens of broadcast and cable networks will carry the fundraiser Stand Up To Cancer simultaneously for one hour of commercial-free programming during prime time television on Friday, Sept. 5.
“Stand Up To Cancer” will air on four major American television networks, 28 cable channels and will stream live on Hulu and Yahoo. Participants include CBS, ABC, Fox, NBC, HBO, Showtime, Lifetime, ESPNews and many others along with a Canadian broadcast to be added this year.
Dozens of stars from television, film and music will be encouraging and accepting donations for the non-profit charity that has raised millions of dollars for cancer-related research since 2008. Since the first telecast, the Stand Up To Cancer initiative has pledged more than $260 million.
Music acts on tap to perform at the event include Ariana Grande, Jennifer Hudson, The Who, Dave Matthews Band, Lupe Fiasco and Common.
The show is co-executive produced by actress Gwyneth Paltrow and 10-time Emmy nominee Joel Gallen with the charity co-founded by Katie Couric, who will be joining the duo as a participant in the broadcast.
“I don’t think there’s anybody on the planet that has not been affected by cancer,” Gallen said, adding that his brother is a cancer survivor. “This is a show that should inspire people and give them hope.”
