Just days after Mike Epps was named the starring role as Richard Pryor in Lee Daniels’s upcoming biopic, Oprah Winfrey revealed that she too has joined the cast as Pryor’s grandmother.
The media mogul will take on the role of Marie Carter, a violent brothel owner who raised Pryor and was known to beat him.
Winfrey essentially made the announcement on Instagram with a photo with both Daniels and Epps tagged with the caption, “@theoriginalbigdaddy , @eppsie , and me just finished a great 1st read session. #RichardPryorMovie.”
Meanwhile, Daniels wrote, “And we’re off…Get ready y’all” next to the same image on his own Instagram page.
Winfrey previously worked with Daniels, 54, on his 2013 film The Butler.
