Piaget Crenshaw came forward with her personal account from Aug. 9, where a Ferguson police officer shot and killed unarmed teenager Michael Brown. The 19-year-old witnessed the incident from her apartment window overlooking the street where the shooting took place.
In addition to her words, Crenshaw revealed a video taken by her cell phone just 30 seconds after the murder occurred. Brown’s lifeless body can be seen lying face down in the middle of the street as two officers, one of whom Crenshaw identified as the shooter Darren Wilson, stood over the fallen teen.
“I knew the police shouldn’t have been chasing this young boy and firing at the same time. The fact that he got shot in his face, it was like something clicked in me,” she said. “This isn’t right. I gotta record.”
Crenshaw said she witheld the footage out of fear for her own safety, but also felt that the officer who shot Brown should publicly be named before the video was released to the public.
