Aaliyah fans who rallied against Lifetime’s upcoming biopic about deceased singer Aaliyah, calling it too small of a production for the star may be getting their wishes for a feature film production, according to Sister 2 Sister magazine.
“We’re in a position where we can do the feature film and we can do the music,” a source close to production told the magazine.
The feature film is expected to hit theaters in late 2015, and will offer a few things that Lifetime’s production will not be able to pull off. For starters, Aaliyah’s family is behind the production, so the film will include favorite tracks recorded by the singer before her tragic death. Lifetime does not have clearance to use Aaliyah’s original music because the family will not give their consent. In addition, there will be some never-before-released music.
According to the reports, singer B. Simone has been cast as the leading lady. There has also been talks of Terrence Howard and Wood Harris as possible co-stars and author Zane being responsible for the script. Most importantly, Aaliyah’s uncle and former manager, Barry Hankerson, is working on the project.
Those connected to the film do not believe the release of Lifetime’s Aaliyah: Princess of R&B later this year will affect the success or interest in their larger production.
“I think if we do our due-diligence, people will watch the TV movie and still say, ‘I need to see the feature film,'” the source said.
Do you think both the family and Lifetime should continue with their biopics? Or should only one be made? Tell us in the comments!

I hear and learned Barry is snakey, my concern is, has he reached out to his sister and nephew before deciding to do this film, but again I rather see him make the film instead of Wendy Williams dumb illiterate ass.
