Beyoncé teamed up with The Bread of Life, Miss-A-Meal and the Houston Food Bank to launch a food drive to eradicate hunger for the 870,000 in her city that are currently suffering.
“When we say ‘we are starving,’ we have to remember that there are people who are literally starving,” said Tina Knowles about the Miss-A-Meal foundation. “If everyone fed one person, one meal, we could make a huge difference. To miss one meal is a small sacrifice to make in the fight against hunger.”
The campaign asks people to miss a meal and pass the plate by donating the cost of the skipped meal, which will then be used to feed someone who is struggling to keep food on the table.
The Box 97.9 encourages fans to join the effort to fight hunger in Houston by donating at least five non-perishable food items for a chance to win tickets to the On The Run Tour at Minute Maid Park on Friday, July 18.
Donations can be brought to St. John’s Parking Lot at 1703 Gray Street in Houston, where 97.9 The Box will be doing a live broadcast and heading the competition for tickets. Winning tickets will be given out at 2 p.m. each day.
