‘Dear White People’ Trailer Unveiled

Five months after making a splash at the Sundance Festival, the Dear White People trailer has been released with a release date.

The film written and directed by Justin Simien centers around four black students at an Ivy League college where a riot breaks out over a popular “African American” themed party thrown by white students. “The film explores racial identity in ‘post-racial’ America while weaving a universal story of forging one’s unique path in the world,” according to IMDd.

The racial satire stars Tyler James Williams (Everybody Hates Chris), Tessa Thompson (For Colored Girls), Teyonah Parris (Mad Men) and Brandon Bell (Hollywood Heights).

The film received raves at the 2014 Sundance Festival, earning the Special Jury Prize for Breakthrough Talent.

The film hits theaters October 17.
