President Obama And FLOTUS To Help Nigeria Rescue Nearly 300 Abducted Girls

Nearly 300 teenage girls were kidnapped from their school in Nigeria by an Islamist extremist group three weeks ago. Luckily 53 managed to escape, but 276 remain in captivity. No one knows the whereabouts of the young girls, except for Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau, who has threatened to sell the girls into slavery.

The abduction sparked international outrage and mounting demands for Nigeria to spare no effort in finding and rescuing the girls before they are sold or other harmed. President Barack Obama announced his strong will to rescue the girls, and will be sending U.S. military and law enforcement personnel skilled in intelligence, investigations, hostage negotiating, information sharing and victim assistance to Nigeria.

“Every day when I wake up and I think about young girls in Nigeria or children caught up in the conflict in Syria, when there are times in which I want to reach out and save those kids,” U.S. President Obama said Wednesday night in Los Angeles. “I think that drop by drop by drop that we can erode and wear down these forces that are so destructive.”

President Obama and Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan hope that the subsequent outrage over Nigeria’s inability to rescue the girls will mobilize the entire international community to do stand against the terrorists behind the terrible crime.

Michelle Obama also joined in on the global social media campaign by sharing a photo on Instagram of her holding a white sign that reads “#BringOurGirlsBack” with the caption: “Our prayers are with the missing Nigerian girls and their families. It’s time to #BringBackOurGirls. –mo” This came the day after Obama announced sending the military aid to team to Nigeria to help find the girls.
