The wait is finally over!
Mariah Carey unveiled the details of her 14th album with a video revealing the title, cover, release date and track list of her latest project. The announcement came on the 3rd birthday of her twins, Moroccan and Monroe. Carey began working on the album prior to their birth in 2010, but with the setbacks of a few flop singles and a shoulder injury, the release date was postponed time after time. However, the album titled “Me. I am Mariah… The Elusive Chanteuse,” is set to debut for digital and physical retail on May 27.
Carey appeared on the cover of Billboard magazine, where she shared that the title comes from a “personal possession of mine that’s part of an entity that I’ve had almost all my life.” In the announcement video, she reveals that it came from a “self-portrait” she drew of herself at age three, with flowers at her feet and a ribbon in her hair.
“Please don’t judge me for such a simplistic title,” she said. “It was a creative visualization of how I saw myself with the purity of a child’s heart before it was ever broken.” Carey kept the picture private for a while, but shares it on the back cover of her album now as a reflection of her journey throughout the years.
The album features guest appearances from Nas, Wale, Miguel and her twins. The deluxe edition also lets fans in on what appears to be outtakes from the planned 2010 remix album, featuring a duet with R. Kelly and Mary J. Blige.
