Nick Cannon is getting some serious heat online after posting a photo of himself with a white face on Sunday (March 23) to promote the release of his forthcoming album White People Party Music.
The America’s Got Talent host has been labeled “racist, “ignorant” and “hypocritical” for the photo he posted on Instagram on Monday.
“It’s official . . . I’m White!!!” he wrote in a caption for the photo, where he transformed himself into a white man named “Connor Smallnut.”
He continued the tweet with a list of hashtags: #WHITEPEOPLEPARTYMUSIC #Wppm in stores April 1st!!!!!!Dude Go Get It!!!Join The Party!!!! #GoodCredit #DogKissing #BeerPong #FarmersMarkets #FistPumping #CreamCheeseEating #RacialDraft ‘Bro I got drafted!!’”
Despite the immediate backlash, Cannon seems to have no worries as he made sarcastic tweets about being white and even made jokes about the controversy.
“Damn I didn’t know it was going to be this hard being White!,” he tweeted. “I’m exhausted with all this ‘privilege’ LOL #WhitePeopleProblems.”
Nick responded to one negative tweet jokingly writing, “Let’s march!! Rally up all the other white folks and I’ll go get the pick up truck!! Ha!”
The rapper defended his character by paralleling to Robert Downey Jr.’s blackface character from the movie Tropic Thunder. He wrote with the photo, “Shout out to @RobertDowneyJr This is one of my favorite characters of all time! Hilarious!!! There is a big difference between Humor and Hatred.”
White People Party Music is due out April 1.
