Grammy Award-winning singer Anita Baker was served with an arrest warrant after failing to pay Ray A. Smith Painting & Decorating for work done on her Grosse Pointe home in Michigan.
A Wayne County Circuit judge signed and filed the warrant on Wednesday, March 19, stating that Baker owes over $15,000 for carpentry, plastering and painting done on her home in 2009. The singer took to Twitter to share what appears to be a response after learning about the warrant from television.
Attorney Daniel Gerow for Ray A. Smith Painting and Decorating told ClickOnDetroit.com that the company wasn’t trying to give the singer a hard time, but simply wanted to collect the money owed for their client.
Baker, who grew up in Detroit, is best known for her hits in the mid-1980s and early ‘90s. she won eight Grammy awards, including “Sweet Love” and two for 1988’s “Giving You the Best That I Got.” Her most recent album titled “Lately” was released last year.
