Man Sentenced To 4 Years For Death Of Usher’s Stepson

The man convicted of killing Usher’s 11-year-old stepson in a jet-ski incident was sentenced on Wednesday to four years in prison, and 15 years of probation after being released.

Jeffrey Simon Hubburd was a family friend convicted of a homicide for running over Kile Glover and another 15-year-old in Lake Lanier in July 2012. The children were on an inner tube when Hubbard ran over them, and were both were severely injured. Kile was unresponsive when he was pulled from the lake and never gained consciousness, passing away two weeks later from brain injuries.

Hubbard’s lawyers argued that the incident was a tragic accident. His father claimed that his son wanted to express an apology earlier, but was advised against doing so by his counsel.

“He’s been remorseful from day one,” his father, Simon, said after the sentence was announced. “It’s been a nightmare for him for the past two years, and it’s probably going to be indelibly etched in his mind for the rest of his life.”
