Antoine Faqua, the director behind Training Day and Olympus Has Fallen is attached to direct Disney’s biopic about American track and field hero Jesse Owens.
The untitled film will pull from the book Triumph written by ESPN host Jeremy Schaap. The book recounts Owens’ childhood in 1920′s Cleveland to his historic turn at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin where he defied Adolf Hitler’s myth of Aryan supremacy when he won four gold medals running and long jump events.
The script will be written by David Seidler, the Oscar-winning writer behind The King’s Speech.
Is has not been confirmed when the movie will be released.
Fuqua had box office success earlier this year with Olympus Has Fallen- it grossed $161 million domestically. In 2014 he will reunite with Denzel Washington in the action thriller The Equalizer, slated to release September 2014.
