Only Oprah Winfrey can clean out her home and fetch $600,000 for her old stuff.
The entertainment mogul held an “epic yard sale” over the weekend in Santa Barbara where she sold treasures from her homes in Hawaii, Indiana, and California to benefit Winfrey’s Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the fact that each item was personally touched by Oprah sent prices skyrocketing during the auction-a simple teapot went for $1,000. Amongst the non-bargains taken home by attendees were a set of six Louis XVI armchairs for $60,000, an enlarged TV Guide print photo of Winfrey at $3,000 and crystal lamp bases expected to go for $200-$300 selling for $2,500.
The star told Entertainment Tonight “I’ve been accumulating things since 1985. It’s just too much stuff. I talk about it a lot in [O] the magazine. We talk about decluttering. And I realized, I need to declutter my own life. It is very freeing. I am downsizing.”
Winfrey’s fitness guru, Bob Greene, also donated some of his furniture and equipment to the marathon event.
