Howard Stern sidekick, Robin Quivers, revealed the startling reason as to why she hasn’t been in the studio this past year on Howard Stern’s Sirius XM radio show today. The 61-year-old co-host was battling cancer and is now happy to announce that she is officially cancer-free. She has been an essential part of the Howard Stern show since March of 1981, but kept her medical condition from the audience after a brief discussion on air early 2012.
“I gotta be honest, I thought she was a goner,” Stern told listeners today, adding that he still gets chills hearing Quivers’ story. “I can’t tell you how dire everything seemed.” He didn’t feel comfortable continuing the show without Quivers, so she broadcasted from her home by an ISDN line since she had a grapefruit-sized tumor removed from her bladder in May of 2013; she only missed two episodes despite undergoing extensive radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and other highly invasive operations.
It’s unclear when she will return to the studio, but she is scheduled to appear at a New York Barnes and Noble on October 9th to promote her new book The Vegucation of Robin: How Real Food Saved My Life. This will mark her first public appearance since early 2012.
