Earlier this week, the trailer for ‘Iceberg Slim: Portrait of a Pimp’ was released. The documentary was produced byhip hop icon Ice-T and tells the life the legendary Chicago area pimp.
Featured interviews and commentary in the film are provided by Ice-T, Snoop Dogg, Henry Rollins, Chris Rock and Quincy Jones. They describe the story of how Slim ushered his way from pimp to author, writing 7 groundbreaking books that described life in the ghetto like never before.
Iceberg Slim, real name Robert Maupin, started pimping at the age of 18 and continued to be engaged in pimping until age 42. After a final 10-month prison stretch in solitary confinement, Maupin moved to California in the 1960s to pursue writing under the Iceberg Slim pen-name.
The film is scheduled to hit theaters on July 19.
