The National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis is honoring hip-hop artist Usher with its Philanthropy Freedom Award. The museum said in a news release Tuesday that it is honoring the multiple Grammy Award winner, whose full name is Usher Raymond, for the work done by his New Look Foundation.

The foundation certifies young people in four leadership categories — talent, education, career and service. The foundation has raised financial resources for Hurricane Katrina victims and issued a “call to action” for Haiti relief in 2010.

The Freedom Awards recognize individuals who work for justice, equality, philanthropy, civil and human rights and humanitarian causes.
