Venus Williams is just two matches away from her sixth Wimbledon ladies’ singles title. But a familiar obstacle may await the two-time defending champion in Saturday’s final: her sister Serena.
Venus, the No. 3 seed who has played for the Wimbledon championship in seven of the past nine years, won 6-1, 6-2 against Poland’s Agnieszka Radwanska on Tuesday to move into the semifinals, where she’ll face top-seeded Dinara Safina on Thursday.
“I would love it to be a Williams final, and so would she,” Venus told reporters after the match.
In the opposite half of the draw, second-seeded Serena routed Victoria Azarenka 6-2, 6-3 to book a date with fourth-seeded Elena Dementieva.
