Naomi Campbell to Receive Fashion Icon Award at the 2018 CFDA Awards

Supermodel Naomi Campbell will be celebrated for her personal style and impact on fashion at the 2018 CFDA Awards!

On Thursday (March 22), the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) announced the British supermodel-actress will be honored with the Fashion Icon Award at the June 4th ceremony. Accepting the honor, Campbell will be joining past recipients including Rihanna, Pharrell Williams, Beyoncé, and Johnny Depp.

“It is truly an honor to be recognized by the CFDA with this year’s Fashion Icon award,” Campbell said in a statement. “Being from London, my personal style has always been tremendously influenced by both the dynamic, ever-changing nature of street culture and the music scene. I grew up in this industry and I’m forever grateful to the iconic American fashion designers that have supported me and celebrated me throughout my career.”

With a career spanning several decades, it’s easy to say Naomi has always been an icon. Discovered at age 15, Naomi Campbell has graced over 500 magazine covers and has served as a muse to several renowned designers including Gianni Versace and Azzedine Alaïa. During her career, Campbell made history when she became the first black model to appear of the cover of French Vouge, Time Magazine, Russian Vogue and British Vogue. Along with being a successful supermodel, she also has a fruitful career as an actress. Throughout her career Campbell as starred in several shows including Star, Empire, American Horror Story, and New York Undercover.

“From enfant prodige to Goddess of Fashion,” CFDA Chairwoman and Designer Diane Von Furstenberg said. “Naomi represents beauty, activism and joie de vivre.”

Hosted by Issa Rae, the 2018 CFDA Awards in partnership with Swarovski will take place Monday June 4th at the Brooklyn Museum.
