Issa Rae to Host the 2018 CFDA Awards!

It’s safe to say Issa Rae is having one heck of a year! The actress and creator of the HBO hit show Insecure has been pretty busy, adding numerous accolades to her belt. Now, the black creative will be hosting the 2018 Council of Fashion Designers of America Fashion Awards – becoming the first female to do so in several years!

On Monday (March 5), the Awkward Black Girl creator announced that she will hosting the award show – taking the reins from Seth Meyers, who served as host last year. Rae will be the first women to host the award show in almost a decade – comedian Tracy Ullman hosted the ceremony back in 2009. “So excited to announce that I will be hosting the 2018 CFDA Fashion Awards on June 4th! Mark your calendars!” Rae said in a tweet.

“Issa Rae is leading a new generation of performers who use their voice and humor to discuss social topics in a way that is relatable and poignant,” CFDA president and CEO Steven Kolb said in a release. “We are also excited to take the awards to Brooklyn this year. The Brooklyn Museum is a strong and iconic backdrop to one of fashion’s biggest nights.”

The CFDA’s also explained why they chose the style icon and solidified her spot as a host! “Not only has Rae’s content garnered millions of views online and two consecutive Best Actress Golden Globe nominations for HBO’s Insecure. She is also a fashion favorite and celebrates American fashion on the red carpet, having worn Marc Jacobs, Prabal Gurung, Vera Wang, Narciso Rodriguez, Rosie Assoulin, and more.”

For the first time in the 37-year history, the award show will take place in Brooklyn, N.Y. at the Brooklyn Museum. The museum, which serves as a perfect place to hold the coveted award show, is one of the largest museums in the United States and features world famous pieces ranging from classic to contemporary.

“The Brooklyn Museum is a strong and iconic backdrop to one of fashion’s biggest nights,” Kolb added.

The 2018 CFDA Awards, in partnership with Swarovski, nominees and honorees will be unveiled on the CDFA Instagram page on Thursday, March 15, starting at 7:30 PM. The award show will take place Monday, June 4th.
