N.E.R.D Make A Comeback with “Lemon” featuring Rihanna

They’re back! N.E.R.D has made their return and joined forces with Rihanna to bring us their new bouncy track “Lemon.”

According to Rolling Stone, the track featuring RiRi first premiered on Beats 1 before the music video dropped. The track with a bouncy, electric beat opens with Pharrell laying out the foundation before Rihanna comes in with a lengthy rap verse. Directed by Beyoncé’s longtime creative director, Todd Tourso and visionary for Lemonade Scott Cudmore, the visual opens with Rihanna shaving a woman’s head in a hotel room. The woman, who is Pharrell’s real life backup dancer, Mette Towley, becomes the focus of the video as she dances in an indoor market and a studio covered in glitter.

N.E.R.D –the project of Pharrell Williams, Chad Hugo, and Shay Haley –haven’t released a studio album since Nothing back in 2010. Although the group kept quiet through recent years, in 2015 the funk rock band contributed three songs for The Spongebob Squarepants Movie: Sponge Out of Water soundtrack. Shockingly, this is the first collaboration between Williams and Rihanna, as a solo artist, a member of N.E.R.D or as a part of the duo The Neptunes. Comprised of Hugo and Williams, The Neptunes, is responsible for a long list hits including “Frontin,” “Mr. Me Too,” “Hot In Herre,” “Pass The Courvoisier Part II,” “D.I.D.D.Y,” “Drop It Like It’s Hot,” “Milkshake,” and “Hollaback Girl”… just to name a few.

It is not clear whether “Lemon” is just a single or the first of many from a new N.E.R.D album. As Rolling Stone reports, the group has been teasing their acronym, No-one Ever Really Dies. The posters with the abbreviation was recently seen around Tyler, the Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw festival over the weekend and is visible on the group’s social media.

“Lemon” is available on iTunes, Spotify, TIDAL and other streaming services – and is also available as a 7” record featuring the track without Rihanna. Check out “Lemon” below!
