Now, Waithe is making headlines again after Showtime dropped the teaser for her highly anticipated series The Chi.

“I rep #TheChi everywhere I go,” Waithe wrote on Twitter as she teased the long-awaited trailer.

When writing the “Thanksgiving” episode, Waithe tapped into her own coming-out story as inspiration and now for her forthcoming series, Waithe will be recalling her experience as a Chicago native. As Deadline reports, the show follows a pre-teen named Kevin (Hibbert) who must step past shattered illusions and embrace the normal rites of childhood, while Brandon (Mitchell) the dreamer makes his own nearly impossible leap of faith to succeed in life and love with girlfriend Jerrika (Boone). A carefree teen, named Emmett (Latimore), is thrusted into complex responsibility with guidance from his mother Jada (Ross), and Ronnie (Mwine) is the drifter whose struggle to love and be loved calls into question his every pursuit. Sonja Sohn, Jahking Guillory, and Steven Williams all have recurring roles in the series.

Along with Waithe, award-winning artist Common and showrunner Reid, Aaron Kaplan will serve as executive producer, in addition to Rick Famuyiwa (Dope, The Wood), who directed the first episode.
