Cardi B don’t gotta dance, she makes money moves. The 24-year-old’s glow up has been on fire and doesn’t seem like it is going to slow down anytime soon. The social media personality turned reality star turned bonafide rapper has officially created a lane for herself as a female rapper with the phenomenal success of her breakout hit “Bodak Yellow.”
“Bodak Yellow” is the number 3 song in the country on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart. The summer anthem for men and women alike jumped from last week’s number 8 spot to continue its rise to the top of the charts. Number 1 could very well be right around the corner for the 24-year-old rapper.
Either way, the third slot on the charts is taking the rap and music game to a whole ‘nother level for a year that has been otherwise devoid of female solo acts gracing the top of the charts. In fact, with “Bodak Yellow,” Cardi B is the only woman this year to have a song in the top three position without a feature or being a featured artist.
.@iamcardib “Bodak Yellow” = 1st song by 1 woman & no one else to hit @billboard #Hot100‘s top 3 in 2017 (!) https://t.co/s7myDFGNcU pic.twitter.com/WiRZSaMbm2

Additionally, the coveted top three on the Billboard chart hasn’t been graced by many women year from year. Cardi B is the only one (so far) this year to accomplish the feat. While in 2016, only two women altogether were able to land in the top three without a feature. In 2015, there were three. In 2014, there were four.
Cardi B is no doubt blown away, but humbled by the amount of success she has gained musically with “Bodak Yellow,” which shares flow influences from a song by rapper Kodak Black (hence the pun-intended title). In an interview with VIBE VIVA, the artist told the mag, “Five years ago I was still working hard, just like I’m working today, but I envisioned so little for myself. I settled for so much less. I always used to tell myself that I was never the type to be a dreamer. I’m the type to be realistic. Just tell people to be realistic…But now I can tell people to follow their dreams because it might just happen.”
Number one is right around the corner Cardi.
