Michael Vick Takes Back His Comment About Colin Kaepernick Needing to Cut His Hair

Earlier this week, former NFL athlete Michael Vick talked out the side of his neck when he made an insensitive comment regarding Colin Kaepernick and what the former San Francisco 49ers player needs to do to get the attention of potential scouts. The comment happened while Vick was doing a guest appearance on FSI’s show Speak For Yourself. The 37-year-old suggested that Kaepernick should cut his afro, in hopes of conforming more to societal prim and polished standards.

The advice was unsolicited and controversial for its implications, especially coming from a man who had it all in the league but lost it due to nefarious misconduct – have we all forgotten his history with illegal dog fighting?

Shortly after, 29-year-old Kaepernick issued a cut and dry response to Vick via an Instagram post where he defined Stockholm Syndrome:

After Kaepernick’s response and some backlash, Vick seemingly decided to call in to The Dan Patrick Show on Thursday (July 20) to give his previous statement a politically correct edit.

“At the end of the day, what I said, I should have never said,” Vick stated. “I think it was taken out of context in regards to what I was trying to convey, but I only want to help Kaepernick and I’m not a general manager, I’m not the guy that makes the decisions on getting him signed and I’m truly sorry for what I said. I think I should have used a better choice of words.”

Kaepernick has been a free agent since March after not re-signing with the San Francisco 49ers. This occurred after a somewhat controversial season with the team after Kaepernick took his knee for several games during the National Anthem and garnered negative attention to the team after refusing to just be an athlete that plays and not make any statements, political or otherwise.

Kaepernick has since shifted his focus to more political and social issues and has been spending his time away from the field in various charitable endeavors.
