Two years after the release of his album Cherry Bomb, Tyler, the Creator released two long awaited projects that has fans in a frenzy.
The “Smuckers” rapper took over Thursday (June 30) when he unveiled the music video for “Who Dat Boy,” featuring Harlem rapper A$AP Rocky. However, that wasn’t the only surprise Tyler had in store. At midnight, he also took fans by surprise when he dropped “911/Mr. Lonely” featuring Frank Ocean.
The video is self-directed by Tyler, The Creator’s alter ego, Wolf Haley – as Rolling Stone reports. The video opens with an eerie horror movie-like setting with flickering lights and the rapper’s back turned. As he turns, the screens shows the title “Who Dat Boy” and then switched to the rapper strolling down the street with a portion of his face blown off.
Tyler then knocks on a neighbor’s door who turns out to be A$AP Rocky. The “Goldie” rapper, who is dressed as a surgeon, begins to operate on Tyler’s face. While police are entering the home, Tyler emerges from the operating table unveiling a white face stapled on top of his. After escaping the home, Tyler engages in a police chase but the clip ends with a snippet of “911/Mr. Lonely.”
Tyler has been very active in the music scene. Not too long ago, the rapper was featured on tracks including “Biking” with Jay Z and Frank Ocean and was enlisted by A$AP Rocky for “Telephone” featuring Playboi Carti and Yung Gleesh. Along with his recent features, Tyler released a documentary about 2015’s Cherry Bomb – and announced the return of his annual music festival Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival.
Both “911/Mr. Lonely” and “Who Dat Boy” are available on Apple Music and Spotify. Be sure to check out the video for “Who Dat Boy” below!
