Issa Rae Announces ‘Insecure’ Premiere Date and Shares Season 2 Trailer

HBO has just dropped the new official trailer for the highly anticipated sophomore season to the Issa Rae hit series Insecure. Rae will be reprising her role as main character Issa Dee. From what we see, the second season is going to be even better than the last, featuring a new kind of intrigue for the character as she dips her toes back into the dating pool following her fall out with Lawrence. She might be single, but our girl definitely needs an assist with how she mingles.

In the two minute preview, our ears are dazzled by Anderson .Paak’s Malibu masterpiece “Come Down” and the Calvin Harris-led Frank Ocean and Migos single “Slide” as we reenter the familiar Insecure setup. The trailer opens with Issa giving herself a comedic pep talk to self as she is getting dressed before cutting to glimpses of her on the dating scene. Man after man after man – but somehow the connections just all seem awkward and forced. They aren’t Lawrence (Jay Ellis).

Her best friend Molly (Yvonne Orji) acts as her friend and confidant as she navigates through relationship woes and becomes reacquainted to the single life. Speaking of Lawrence, Jay Ellis is back as Issa’s ex, and though he had his cons, was notoriously cheated on by Issa last season, causing many viewers to side with him despite our connection with the main character Issa.

Issa is very much trying to tango and be one with a late in life “hoe phase” out of necessity but still wants to get Lawrence back. The cause might not be too lost though because, despite her betrayal, Lawrence still has Issa on the brain as well.

Once again, Insecure is giving us all the highs and lows that black women experience in work, life, and love. Season 2 premieres July 23 on HBO. Check out a first look by watching the trailer below.
