Remy Ma Wins Best Female Hip Hop Artist and Ends Nicki Minaj’s 7-Year Streak

Nicki Minaj’s multi-year winning streak as Best Female Hip Hop Artist has come to an end after Remy Ma earned herself a big win at this year’s BET Awards. Beating out hip hop femcees, including Young M.A., Missy Elliot, and Cardi B – Remy Ma accepted the award with style, grace and, of course, some shade.

“I wanna thank God first and foremost, I been through a lot,” Remy said as she accepted her first award since 2005.

The “All the Way Up” rapper then went on to thank her husband, Papoose, along with friends, family, and Terror Squad affiliate, Fat Joe. Remy also had a special message for those who are incarcerated or on probation. “It’s hard, but you can do it. You can get second chances, you can make mistakes to come back.”

During her speech, Remy seemingly came for Nicki’s neck as she delivered some bars from her Plata O Plomo single “Spaghetti.” “ I just wanna say, ‘Y’all b*tches got fat while we starved/Shots in your a**, pads in your bras/Y’all some liars it ain’t no facts in your songs/And yeah that crown is coming back to the Bronx.” You heard that, Nicki?

Within the past year, the two have been involved in a beef that was fueled by a series of diss tracks and social media posts. According to Rolling Stone, the moment the Bronx native was beginning  to revamp her rap career following her 2014 release from prison, she made it apparent that her issues with Minaj were far from over. Soon after, Minaj then mentioned Remy in her feature with Gucci Mane and Jason Derulo. However, it wasn’t long until Remy came back with “SHETHER” and “Anotha One.” Minaj then responded with Drake and Lil Wayne on the diss track turned hit single “No Frauds.”

No matter how messy the beef between Remy and Nicki is, Remy definitely deserved this win. Be sure to check out Remy’s full speech below!
