The Highly Anticipated Floyd Mayweather, Conor McGregor Fight Is Coming Sooner Than You Think

The fight night that spectators have been waiting for is finally happening. Undefeated boxing champion Floyd Mayweather will be fighting UFC staple Conor McGregor and it can all be seen on pay-per-view very soon.

The match between Mayweather, 40, and McGregor, 28, has been highly anticipated by fight fans and will finally come to fruition on August 26 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The idea of has been up in the air for nearly a year and Mayweather and McGregor have both gone back and forth on whether they should go toe to toe in the ring. McGregor’s recent victory over former lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez played a part in the deciding factor.

Mayweather has been retired since September 2015, after defeating Andre Berto, and adding a 49th win to his 49-0 record. Mayweather, though criticized for being somewhat boring in the ring, is rightfully regarded as one of the greatest boxers of all time. With that record and the title of “undefeated champ” under his belt, who could deny that?

It had to take a special fight to bring him out of his retirement. Enter, McGregor. In UFC, the champion holds a record of 21-3. He is also the only person in UFC history to hold titles in two different weight divisions at the same time.

Despite the fact that McGregor is a UFC fighter (and the reigning UFC Lightweight Champion), the August 26 match will be a professional boxing match. Per MMA Fighting, “The fight, which will be sanctioned by the Nevada Athletic Commission, will be a professional boxing match, meaning if Mayweather wins, he’ll be the first boxer to have a perfect 50-0 record.”

August 26 will tell us who the greatest is.

Either way, both men will walk away from the fight as winners in at least one regard. Kevin Lole of Yahoo Sports reports that Mayweather and McGregor will pocket $100,000,000 each, and maybe a little more.
