Karrueche Tran Talks TNT’s ‘Claws’ and Why She Chose to Sink Her ‘Claws’ In Her Newest TV Role

Let Complex tell it Claws is “Beauty Shop meets Big Little Lies meets Breaking Bad. The TNT dramedy is set and prepped for its June 11 premiere. From the looks of the previews, the show brings the drama and the scandal, which is all you can ask for from an abbreviated summer series. The show stars Niecy Nash and Karrueche Tran and brings together other television knowns like Dean Norris (Breaking Bad) and Harold Perrineau (Lost). Rashida Jones (Parks & Recreation, The Office) acts as executive producer.

TNT announced late last year that they ordered a 10-episode first season for the series, after picking it up from HBO. Each episode is an hour long.

According to Variety, this is a rundown of the show’s premise:

At the center is salon owner Desna (Nash), who lives with and cares for her mentally-ill twin brother, Dean (Perrineau). Desna’s staff includes best friend Jennifer (Jenn Lyon), a tenuously sober ex-party girl raising two children from previous relationships; Quiet Ann (Judy Reyes), Desna’s enigmatic driver who also provides security for the salon; Polly (Carrie Preston), a mild-mannered preppy who recently served time in prison for identity theft; and Virginia (Tran), who makes no effort to hide her boredom and impatience with her job. Adding chaos to the Nail Artisan mix is Roller (Jack Kesy), a gangstered-out redneck who runs a barely legal pain clinic and uses Desna’s nail salon to launder their obscene profits; Bryce (Kevin Rankin), Jennifer’s husband who is also newly sober and trying to stay legit by working as an abundance coach; and Dr. Ken Brickman (Jason Antoon), a bona fide doctor at a decidedly un-bona fide and illegal drug clinic.

Well, it sounds like things at this nail salon isn’t what it seems. And it looks like Karrueche Tran has struck career gold yet again. The 29-year-old stopped by Complex on her press tour this week to join them on Facebook Live. The diminutive beauty had nothing but good things to say about the series, starting with what made her want to be a part of it. “The show itself is just intriguing,” Tran revealed.

The model and budding actress, Tran, is a series regular on Claws, playing the role of Virginia. Tran continued, “For me, I’ve played the girlfriend, the wife, the girl next door, those kinds of roles, so with Virginia, I can really create and be an artist and explore me as an actor, and so it’s been so much fun bringing that out of her. It’s such a difference from anything I’ve ever done, and people will see that.”

Mark your calendar, Claws will make its summer debut June 11. Until then, enjoy the trailer for the series below.
