The 2017 BET Awards Nominations Have Been Unveiled: Beyoncé’s on Top as the Night’s Leading Nominee

For fans who felt like this year’s Grammys dropped the ball in recognizing the iconicism and cultural significance of LEMONADE, the BET Awards is here to pick up where they left off. Today (May 15), BET announced its nominations and Beyoncé is the leading nominee of the night for the 2017 BET Awards, garnering seven nominations.

Following her lead is “That’s What I Like” singer Bruno Mars with five nominations as the second most nominated artist of the night. “Cranes in the Sky” singer Solange, Chance the Rapper, and Migos are all tied for third with four nominations each.

Beyoncé was notably snubbed for the coveted Album of the Year award at the Grammys, but the BET Awards may prove to be her redemption song. Her seven nominations include Best Collaboration (“Freedom” with Kendrick Lamar), Best Female R&B/Pop Artist, Video of the Year, and, of course, Album of the Year. Mars will be going toe to toe with the “Formation” singer for Album of the Year and Video of the Year. Another noteworthy nomination for the chart-topping crooner is his nod for Best Male R&B/Pop Artist.

Among their four nominations, the “T-shirt” trio Migos are up for Best Group and Best Collaboration (“Bad and Boujee” with Lil Uzi Vert). The ever-ethereal Solange will be up against her big sister Bey for Album of the Year, Video of the Year, and Best Female R&B/Pop Artist.

The BET Awards is celebrating its 17th year, since its inaugural awards show back in 2000. The Awards show is set to air live on Sunday, June 25 in Los Angeles at 8 pm EST.
