Donald Glover to Produce ‘Deadpool’ Animated Series for FXX

It looks like Donald Glover will be adding another show to FX!

It has been confirmed that the Golden Globe winning actor and his brother Stephen Glover will write, produce, and serve as the showrunners for the animated adult action-comedy series for FXX, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. Marvel’s Jeph Loeb (Legion, Luke Cage) and Jim Chory (Daredevil, Jessica Jones) will join Donald and Stephen Glover as executive producers.

“Donald Glover is an incredibly gifted and versatile artist who’ll bring the untitled Marvel’s Deadpool series to life with the same intense, singular vision as his breakout hit Atlanta,” FX president of original programming, Nick Grad, stated. “With the success of Legion, we’re looking forward to again partnering with Marvel Television to create a series that is bold, striking and entirely original.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, a writer’s room has been set up in London where the Atlanta star is filming for the Han Solo Star Wars spinoff film – which Glover is set to star as a young Lando Calrissian. The new series will also reunite Glover with Marvel as he is set to appear in the Spider-Man Homecoming.

The Deadpool series will mark the second collaboration with Marvel and FX. The series follows Noah’s Hawley’s critically acclaimed show Legion.

“How much more fun could this be? Deadpool, Donald and FX — the perfect fit for the Merc with the Mouth! We’re thrilled that our relationship with FX that started with Legion continues with what is sure to be a groundbreaking show in adult animation,” said Loeb

Although Deadpool is not a well-known superhero, the character created by Rob Liefield and Fabian Nicieza appeared in multiple Marvel animated series, including X-Men and Ultimate Spiderman. However, the character is best known for breaking box-office records when the Deadpool live-action film hit theaters back in 2016. The film starring Ryan Reynolds grossed an estimated $783.1 million worldwide, against a budget of only $58 million. Deadpool 2 is set to hit theaters in 2018. Interestingly enough, the film cast Atlanta star Zazie Beetz, who stars opposite of Glover as his ex-girlfriend (Atlanta), as Domino.

Also known as a talented songwriter/rapper, Donald Glover also made headlines when his acclaimed album, Awaken, My Love!, hit no. 1 on the R&B charts as well as when his highly praised single “Redbone” went platinum, marking his third platinum single. Stephen Glover is a staff writer for Atlanta and has written four episodes of the show’s first season. Atlanta is slated to return with its second season on FX in 2018.
