Well, looks like another one bites the dust. Earlier today, TMZ reported that Carmelo and La La Anthony have separated.
Sources close to the high-profile couple say that Carmelo, 32, and La La, 37, are living separately and have been for at least a week. There are no immediate plans for divorce, but La La has moved out of their shared home and into a place of her own in NYC sans her NBA hubby.
The split between the two is said to be amicable, as the pair have recently been spotted together as a family, showing their support for their 10-year-old son Kiyan at his basketball game. By the looks of it, co-parenting might come easily to the former couple.
The couple have been relationship goals for years, since the two began their public romance back in 2003.
The budding athlete locked eyes on the hazel eyed MTV video jockey and the rest was history. Years later – six to be exact – the Anthonys documented their nuptials for all the world to see in the VH1 reality show “La La’s Full Court Wedding,” chronicling the preparation for the big day from beginning to end. Before that, La La was often the talk of the town, since she had Kiyan years before her and Carmelo said, “I do.”
For a short time, their long engagement became the subject of scrutiny because of the length of their courtship, the birth of their child, and the fact that they weren’t married. But they silenced the haters with a ceremony that dreams are made of and managed to piggyback off the success of the special by creating a spin-off series called “La La’s Full Court Life.” The show aired on the network for five seasons before La La moved to greener pastures. She now has a recurring role in the popular Showtime series “Power”.
The news comes at a somewhat trying time for the New York Knicks forward who has been reportedly endured rumblings of a trade after the team president, Phil Jackson, said last week that the 10-NBA All-Star “would be better off somewhere else.” According to The Associated Press, Jackson said, “We have not been able to win with him on the court at this time, and I think the direction with our team is that he is a player that would be better off somewhere else and using his talent somewhere he can win or chase that championship.”
The news of the separation comes as a bit of a shock, because although Carmelo had been noticeably absent from La La’s social media accounts over the last several weeks, the two made an appearance together on one another’s accounts on Valentine’s Day. Perhaps the two just weren’t ready before now to announce that there was trouble in paradise.
The Anthonys got engaged back in 2004 and have been married since July 2010. Kiyan is the couple’s only child together.
