Angela Davis, Alice Walker, Solange and More to Attend Alternate Trump Inauguration Event

Angela Davis Peace BallAs president-elect Donald Trump continues to struggle with putting a decent inaugural lineup together, another event is taking form that already has some impressive attendees, including Angela Davis, Solange and Alice Walker.

Busboys and Poets, referred to on its website as “a community where racial and cultural connections are consciously uplifted”, is putting on their first ever Peace Ball at the National Museum of African American History and Culture on January 19, just one day before Trump’s inauguration. Established in 2005 by owner Anas “Andy” Shallal, an Iraqi-American artist, the name Busboys and Poets is a tribute to poet Langston Hughes, who worked as a busboy before his famed poet status.

The Peace Ball is described as an event that will ” celebrate the accomplishments and successes of the past 4 years and the vow to continue to be the change we want to see in the world.” Attendees will be able to enjoy food, open bar, live music, and dancing, and if they want to explore the new museum, that will also be an option as all exhibits will be open.

The impressive list of distinguished guests and performers includes political activist Angela Davis, The Color Purple author Alice Walker, soul singer Solange, journalist Melissa Harris-Perry, actor Danny Glover, political commentator Van Jones and many more.
