Ellen and Pharrell Address Kim Burrell’s Homophobic Sermon

Ellen-Pharrell-Kim-Burrell Pharrell appeared on Ellen Degeneres’ talk show this week and the two discussed Kim Burrell’s recent controversial sermon, agreeing that love needs to be the focus in this world.

Burrell’s recent sermon went viral after viewers began commenting on and sharing the video that shows the pastor and gospel singer calling members of the LGBT community “perverted” and referring to homosexuality as “the spirit of delusion and confusion”.

Following the video’s release, Ellen confirmed that Burrell’s scheduled appearance on her show had been canceled via Twitter:

Pharrell, whom Burrell was scheduled to appear with, still went on with his interview and discussed the controversy with Ellen. “You were supposed to do a different song, and you were supposed to perform it with a singer. I actually didn’t know her, her name is Kim Burrell. She made a statement she was doing a Facebook Live and she said some very not nice things about homosexuals so I didn’t feel that was good of me to have her on the show to give her a platform after she was saying things about me,” Ellen said.

Pharrell’s reply was a message of love, empathy and inclusion- what he feels are the only way the world can function and flourish. “There’s no space, there’s no room for any kind of prejudice in 2017 and moving on.” he said.
