donald-glover-star-warsDonald Glover is having a super successful 2016- first the star is cast in the upcoming Spider-Man film; then his new TV series Atlanta premieres on FX to rave reviews and is an instant hit; then he becomes a first time dad and now the actor has been confirmed as the latest addition to the standalone Star Wars films revolving around young Han Solo!

Glover has been cast as young Lando Calrissian (who is portrayed by the ever-smooth Billy Dee Williams in the original films) in the upcoming movie that will star a young Han Solo (who’ll be played by Alden Ehrenreich) as he travels through a galaxy far, far away. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film will focus on Han’s “‘formative years as a scoundrel on the rise in the galaxy’s underworld.’ Sources say the film will show how the character lost the Millennium Falcon to Solo.”

The film is still untitled but its directors, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, are thrilled to have Glover join the cast.“We’re so lucky to have an artist as talented as Donald join us,” Lord and Miller told StarWars.com. “These are big shoes to fill, and an even bigger cape, and this one fits him perfectly, which will save us money on alterations. Also, we’d like to publicly apologize to Donald for ruining Comic-Con for him forever.”

Glover is multi-talented- he’s an actor, comedian, award-winning writer, and Grammy nominated artist- so he’ll undoubtedly do the role justice- plus his casting definitely works looks-wise.

The untitled Han Solo movie is set for release in 2018.
